Privacy

FrenchHiking does not collect anything about you. No account, no tracking, no advertising, no analytics. This page explains what that means in practice, and names the few places where a request still leaves your device.

The apps

Vocabulary Hiker, on Android and on this site, keeps everything on your own device. Your progress, the words in your carnet, your theme and text size are stored in the app's own storage and never sent anywhere. There is no server holding your learning.

The Android app declares no permissions at all — not even internet access. Every word, the font and the audio it needs are already inside the app when you install it. It works with the phone in flight mode, and it could not send your data anywhere even if it were asked to.

Spoken French is read by the text-to-speech engine already installed on your phone. The word being read is passed to that engine on the device; on most phones this is Google's or Samsung's system voice, and how they handle it is covered by their own privacy policies.

This website

Two third parties see a request when you open a page here.

There are no analytics scripts, no advertising, no third-party embeds, and no cookies beyond what your own browser stores locally for the app to remember your progress.

Accounts

There are none today. You can use everything here without signing up, giving an email address, or telling us who you are. If optional accounts are added later — so that progress can follow you between a phone and a laptop — this page will be updated before that ships, and it will say exactly what is stored.

Children

The apps are made for adults learning French. They collect nothing from anyone, of any age.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the Android app removes everything it stored. On the website, clearing your browser's data for this site does the same. There is nothing held elsewhere for us to delete, and nothing to ask us for.
